Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, appeals to the people of the state to be calm following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission that the Governorship and some State Assembly Elections in the state were inconclusive.
He expresses his appreciation to the people for their peaceful conduct in the elections and urges them to continue to be law abiding.
Governor Ortom states that from the results of the Presidential, Governornorship as well as National and State Assembly Elections, Benue people have demonstrated that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, remains their preferred choice.
He explains that the party won all the three senatorial seats in the state, six out of the 11 so far concluded in the House of Representatives, 18 of those announced from the State Assembly with bright chances of winning the others not yet concluded while it got 410, 576 votes for Governor giving the closest rival a gap of over 81,000.
The Governor expresses appreciation to the people for voting massively for the PDP and wishes that they remain resolute in their determination to give their mandate to candidates of the party.
Governor Ortom states that he is confident of winning the rerun overwhelmingly and pledges to support security agencies to curtail electoral malpractices on the date to be scheduled by INEC.
He expresses the hope that the Commission would also be patriotic enough to discharge its duties professionally.
The Governor appeals to the people of the state to turn out en mass for the repeat elections in the affected areas and for all to be law abiding.
It could be recalled that INEC today declared the 2019 Governorship Election in Benue State inconclusive explaining that it took the decision because the margin of difference between the highest votes scored and those of the next person were less than the number of those cancelled.
