APC won’t return to govt. in Oyo- Alao-Akala
A former governor of Oyo state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has given hints on the ploy currently deployed by the opposition parties in the state to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from Agodi government house on May 2019.
Speaking during an interview on Fresh FM in Ibadan, the governorship candidate of Action Democratic Party (ADP), vowed that APC would not retain to the seat of government as plans are ongoing to stop the ruling party in 2019, Nigerian Tribune reports.
It was gathered that Akala, who disclosed that the split within opposition parties in 2015 paved way for Governor Abiola Ajimobi to return as governor with 32% of the total votes cast, however he said was not assured of the would-be winner. He said: “I will not tell you what we are doing as opposition parties in Oyo State, but I want to tell you that what happened in 2015 when the opposition could not unite against the ruling APC will not repeat itself,” that I can assure you. I can even swear on oath that it will not happen. How we are going to ensure APC does not return, I won’t give you the formula. Leave that to us.
“One thing I want to tell you is that, by the special grace of God, APC will not rule Oyo state in 2019. Whatever it will take, we will give. We are ready. We are on air, so I won’t want to speak too much. The person that will be governor, we will know. But it is not going to be APC candidate.”
The ADP gubernatorial candidate also revealed the commitment of the people of the state to prevent rigging of the election, adding that all hands are on decks to put a stop to a force trying to override the people’s interest during election.
According to him, anybody trying to rig election in Oyo State will not find it easy. He said in 2019, voters will be seen climbing armoured tanks if they rig in Oyo state
“We are fully ready. I know that the man governing Oyo state now will not like to set the state ablaze. If he wants to do that, we will help him put petrol. Nobody should rig. Let Oyo state people decide who governs them.
“It is not necessary it should be Alao-Akala. People should decide who governs them and in an attempt to rig, to bring the military to harass the people of the state, we will know what to do when the time comes.
“We are not trying to threaten anybody. Nobody should think we are fools. We will not take it. And I mean it and we are ready. I have been in this game for a long time,” he added. Meanwhile, it had been reported that Adebayo Alao-Akala, on Monday, December 24, stated that his ambition to be governor again was hinged on his concern that the state had lost its pacesetter status, despite its abundant resources, and that residents of the state grappled with pains and hardship.
In a Christmas message he personally signed, Alao-Akala called for introspection on the good governance he offered between 2007 and 2011, thereby stating that he was determined to take the state from nadir to the apex, in terms of good governance.
